The Bus Stop!

It was a cold winter evening and we were all eagerly waiting for the last school bell to ring, for this semester. The bell rang and hell broke loose, we ran out of our classes like a hungry tiger running after it’s prey. We were all excited because it was time to be jolly and happy. Christmas was just a fortnight away and I couldn’t hold my excitement because I was going to visit my grandmother after almost 2 years. But I still had to get back home and for that had to make the last bus journey.

I was walking towards the bus stop when my eyes fell upon two boys dressed in all black from head to toe. I felt like I had seen them somewhere before. I got a good second look and remembered that they were indeed boys from our school and they were on my bus daily. But there was something different with them today. Their eyes looked different. They looked cold. Cold as a stone. But I thought, well who cares, it’s the last day of school and we are all finally free.

The school bus stop was a room where we had to punch in our name before getting on the bus. I punched in my name and the person sitting on the other side of the desk told me that my bus will be here in 15 minutes. 15 minutes! It’s too long. Why can’t the bus be here sooner?

I found a seat in a corner of the room and settled down. I saw few other people waiting. I knew mostly all of them but I had never spoken to them. They might think I am such a weirdo. The two boys dressed in all black stepped inside the bus stop. I just couldn’t take my eyes off them. Something was different. As soon as they walked in the room suddenly turned dead cold.

As soon as they entered, there came our principal running behind them.

Principal: Hey, Tony and Van. I told you guys not to leave my office till I tell you to. Why did you leave?

Tony: Mam, our bus is about to arrive, we need to reach home on time.

Principal: I have called your parents here. You are not supposed to leave till I tell you to.

Van: We are already here and we are going home. Try to touch us and we will show you what we can do to you.

The principal looked shocked. She ran outside and vanished into thin air. I was confused about what actually happened here. I wanted to walk up to the guys and ask them why did they do this. But I was very timid and thought maybe it’s something they might have done in school. Why should I bother?

I was busy in my thoughts, I saw Tony walking towards me. I just slid down a little in my seat. Why was he walking towards me? I have never spoken to him. Why?

Tony: Hey, did you just overhear our conversation with the principal?

I tried to act all cool.

Me: Yes, I did. But I don’t really care about it.

Tony: Good. I wanted to say sorry if we caused trouble and scared you guys. Do you want to know what is happening with us?

Me: Well, it’s your business and I did not get scared or anything. It’s all cool.

I was dying to know what had happened but I was too scared to ask him. He sat down next to me. He whispered in my ear.

Tony: Whatever I tell you, do not get scared or shout. Also, do not try to touch me. I am telling you do not touch me.

Shivers passed down my spine. I wasn’t expecting him to tell me this. I was literally shaking from inside. I didn’t know how to react. I just got up and started to walk away. I looked back at him and he was smiling.

Me: Tony, I will see you after the vacation. My bus should be here by now.

I just walked away and I saw few other people following me. My palms were all sweaty and I just wanted to get home as soon as possible. I saw the time and there was still 5 more minutes for the bus to arrive. I was not going to wait inside the bus stop anymore. As soon as I stepped out, the cold winter wind froze my hands. I took out my gloves from the bag and put them on. What was Tony telling me inside? What was going on there? What was with the whispering and why was he telling me all that?

I was busy in my thoughts when I felt something on my shoulder. It was Tony again. But it was not his hand but a stick he was holding, which was on my shoulder.

Tony: Hey don’t be scared. I am not here to scare you. I really want to tell you what is happeneing.

I panicked. I started shouting. A few other people came running and asked me what’s wrong.

Me: He is not leaving me alone. Leave me alone.

Few others told Tony to back off. In the meantime Van came running and saw what was happening. They both started whispering in each other’s ears.

I was shaken beyond belief.

Suddenly, they came towards all of us.

Tony: Guys, we have something to tell you all. Please don’t freak out but it’s for your own good to know.

He looked at Van and nodded his head.

Van: So as you all can see we are both dressed in black. We wanted to tell you why and the reason is…..

And he stood still there as if something was stopping him to say things.

Tony: Well we both died 2 days back but our bodies didn’t. Our bodies just didn’t die and we are rotting while being alive. If you guys don’t believe us, then come and touch us. You won’t be able to feel our bodies. We don’t know what’s going on with us but we died in a bike accident and were declared dead on the spot but we got up and started walking after few hours. We got ourselves checked and we don’t have a heartbeat. But our bodies are still alive. We are as confused as you guys are but we are two dead people walking in our living bodies.

A cold wind blew past us and there was an eerie silence in the air. It seemed like everything froze around us.

Someone giggled from behind me. And shouted, ya right losers.

Tony looked extremely pissed. He came running towards me to get to that person and went right through my body. We all stood there in shock and disbelief. This is actually happening. He was not lying. They are actually dead. I felt like I had died in that moment.
